Flamenco in the Six Toronto and Montreal's most prolific flamenco artists, performing together for one night only.
FabCollab presents: Flamenco in the Six! Presented in partnership with the Aga Khan Museum's Duende Flamenco Festival, Flamenco in the Six! provides a rare opportunity to see a collection of esteemed and prolific flamenco artists from Toronto and Montreal, onstage together for the first time. See and hear the brilliant artists that keep this passionate art form thriving in Canada. This is flamenco at its most authentic: raw, wild, and deeply improvisational in nature.
Singer Tamar Ilana has been hailed as “Canada’s own pan-global diva,” by Jesse Cook, and headlines festivals around the world with her ensemble, Ventanas. Dancer Virginia Castro was born in Cordoba and trained in the city’s prestigious conservatory before relocating to Toronto and joining the award-winning Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. Dancer Makeda Benitez has just returned from two-years of intense training in Seville, the birthplace of flamenco, where she performed to much acclaim in the city’s famed flamenco. Matt Sellick is a prolific flamenco guitarist from Thunder Bay (now based in Toronto), who has received international acclaim for his impressive body of solo work. And Miguel Medina is one of the most in-demand flamenco cajon players in the country, regularly accompanying contemporary flamenco company La Otra Orilla in Montreal. They are all among the country's most acclaimed flamenco artists, and will come together for the first time onstage for the only offsite event of the Aga Khan Museum's Duende Flamenco Festival.
